OFFICERS ELECTED “Fot an amateur orchestra to give 15 performances in three years and remain solvent was a record to be proud of,” said the annual report of the Christchurch Orchestral Society. The conductor of the society changed four times during the year, said the report, but the year’s operations were considered to be quite satisfactory. Officers elected were: Patron, the Prime Minister (Mr Holland); president, Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.; vice-presidents, Sir Ernest Andrews, Dr. Vernon Griffiths, Messrs J. K. McAlpine, J. L. Hay, and W. R. Lascelles; chairman, Mr S. B. Barltrop; secretary, Miss H. Watson; treasurer, Mr C. Wilson; librarian, Mr J. R. Watson; assistant librarian, Miss M. P. Barltrop.
