ROAD-SEALING PROGRAMME
RECORD PROGRESS IN LAST YEAR
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 23. A record total of 600 miles of new sealing was put down throughout the country in the last 12 months, according to preliminary figures placed before the, National Roads Board at its meeting yesterday. The board announced that on the main highway system 383 miles of metalled highways were sealed, compared with 194 miles for the previous year—an increase of nearly 100 per cent.
In addition, approximately 220 miles of roads were sealed by local bodies in their own districts, with subsidies provided by the board.
