NEW ROSE GARDEN AT CREMATORIUM

SPACE FOR ABOUT 10,000 BUSHES A new memorial rose garden is being prepared on the Sumner side of the Crematorium in Linwood avenue by the Crematorium Society of Canterbury The existing rose garden, in which there are 6000 roses, is now Practically full. The new garden, which will be opened before Christmas, will have space for about 10,000 roses . According to Mr T. L. Jones, superintendent and secretary of the society a new crematorium may eventually be built near the new garden The hew garden will have' a frontage to Linwood avenue of 90 feet, and will extend back for 540 feet. Some time ago the area was levelled and sown in grass. The rose plots will be dut shortly, and trees and shrubs will be planted in the middle of the garden. A fountain may also be constructed The garden will be enclosed by a macrocarpa hedge.
