MAGISTRATE’S COURT
WEDNESDAY (Before Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M.) FINED FOR DRUNKENNESS John Allan Hooper, aged 41, a labourer, was fined £2 on a charge of having been drunk in Cathedral square on April 19, having been once previously convicted of a similar offence within the last six months. SHIP DESERTER IMPRISONED Raymond Leonard Banks, aged 22, a ship’s steward and wire worker (Mr W. F. Brown) pleaded guilty to a charge of deserting from the overseas ship Dominion Monarch, on March 15, 1953. He was convicted and sentenced to one month’s imprisonment and thereafter to deportation. Mr R. W. Edgley appeared for the shipping company. PLACED RUBBISH ON ROAD Patrick Floyd and James Phillip Brittain were each fined £1 on charges of placing rubbish on a public road. NO RADIO LICENCES On charges of having no radio licences, the following persons were fined:Dorothy Aplin, 10s: Clarence William Arneson, 10s; Richard N. French, 10s; Norman C. Smythe, 10s; Edward Thomas Young, 10s. NO RETURNS OF INCOME For failing to make returns of income, the following persons were fined:— William Clifford (1953 and 1954), £2 and £3; John Francis Egan, £25o an ™? hn Gray ’ £2 i Norman Gibbs, £3; Thomas Gallavin, £3; Hugh Warwick Ellis, £1; Desmond Alexander McCuskey (1953 and 1954), £5 and £5. (Before Mr H. T. Fuller, J.P., and Mr S. F. Marshall, J.P.) CHARGE OF INDECENT ASSAULT . On a charge of indecently assaultma’e on March 6. 1955, Harold Ashton Woods, aged 39. a labourer (Mr A. Hearn) pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was renewed on his own recognisance of £lOO with one surety of a like amount.
