RED CROSS SOCIETY
AFTERNOON PARTY At the home of Mrs Douglas Anderson, Armagh street west, a very pleasant party was held yesterday afternoon for the twofold purposes of enabling members of the Christchurch sub-centre of the Red Cross Society to meet one another and to raise money for the society’s building fund. The large number of members who attended were welcomed by Mrs Anderson who recently became president of the sub-centre. She reminded members that the 127th anniversary of the birth of Henri Dunank, the founder of the Red Cross Society, would fall on May 8 and would be celebrated by a church service in the Durham Street Methodist Church. Mrs Anderson asked for members’ support for the Red Cross market and street appeal to be held on June 10 and showed examples of work done by the sub-centre’s hard-working sewing circle.
An amusing reading was given by Miss Rose Reynolds. The sum of £45 9s was raised at the party for the society’s building fund and to this will be added £3O 12s 6d raised within the last fortnight by donations and a white elephant stall, making the sub-centre’s contribution £76 Is 6d.
A donation of £l5 was made to the fund last year.
