NURSERY PLAY CENTRES
TALKS BY PROFESSOR BURNHAM “What Children Need in Adults” was the subject of a talk given at the Teachers’ College last evening by Professor Marguerite Paterson Burnham, associate professor of education at Newhaven State Teachers’ College, Connecticut. A large gathering of play centre representatives and interested parents who are in Christchurch for a refresher course attended the meeting. Mr C. T. Ford was chairman. Professor Burnham emphasised not only the importance of a knowledge on techniques of guiding children, but also the need to develop an over-all accepting” attitude in relationships with children. Mrs R. Stockwell thanked the speaker. Tod a y delegates attending the course will hear a talk from Miss J. Hay on story telling, as well as see a demonstration of equipment. Observation visits to Aranui, Fendalton, and Risingbohne play centres will be made in the afternoon.
