METHVEN MOTHERS’ UNION
DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATED
The diamond jubilee of the Mothers’ Union of All Saints’ Church, Methven, was held recently. Special services, commencing with Holy Communion with the vicar (Canon A. C. Purchas) as the celebrants were held in the church.
A buffet lunch at which many former members of the union were present, was held in the Sunday School hall. A special feature of the table decorations was low bowls of blue gentians combined with the white tablecloths to carry out the Mothers’ Union colours.
Messages of congratulations were received from the Diocesan president (Mrs A. K. Warren), from Auckland, St. Saviour’s, Sydenham, the branch’s town link, and the overseas link branch at Colgate, England. Presentations were made to Mesdames Fitzgibbon and Cleeve, retiring secretary and treasurer. Mrs Purchas welcomed visitors. Floral sprays were presented, to all former enrolling members and secretaries. An address on education in Japan was given by the Rev. J. Akiyama (Ashburton). Songs were sung by Miss J \L O^win^“ d Mrs L - L. Richards, with Mrs G. G. Stephens as accompanist.
At afternoon tea the jubilee cake beautifully decorated by Miss M. Grubb, was cut by Mrs Arlington, a foundation member.
