STOPPAGE OF PLAY
CENTRE’S POLICY IN CASE OF RAIN At all times when a club green Is being used by the Christchurch Bowling Centre, the clubs green, superintendent or his deputy will be required to be present with tub authority to confer with the umpire. Their decision will be communicated to the headquarters green. When there is * a .? y d’sagrement a representative from the headquarters green will inspect the green in question. This was decided at a meeting of the centre last evening. The secretary (Mr W. Skelton) read the minutes of a meeting between representatives of the centre, of green superintendents, and of the umpires association. It said the meeting was brought about through the interruption of the open pairs by 3 heavy rainstorm at headquarters (Edgeware). Play was only stopped for a short time before the Edgeware green superintendent declared the green fit for Play. At Elmwood, Fendalton, and the Disabled Services greens the rain was heavier, but taking Edgeware as an exanLple * play was ordered to contihue. The minutes reported that Mr J. T. Bisman said it was not the policy of the centre to be arbitrary in ordering play as it was not to anyone’s benefit when damage might be done to a green. He, on behalf of the centre match committee, welcomed the opportunity to discuss the position with superintendents and umpires, and a course be agreed on for future guidance. The meeting, after a discussion, had come to the decision which it recommended to the centre for adoption. After the president (Mr G. Macdonald) had explained the recommendation briefly, the centre passed the decision as a resolution.
