LOCAL POLLS IN FRANCE
(Rec. 11 p.m.) PARIS, April 18. Provincial France voted predominantly Conservative in the first round of local Assembly elections yesterday. Moderate and Radical candidates gained most ground compared with the figures of 1949, which was the last time these seats were contested. De Gaullists lost heavily to Centre and Co- vative candidates.
