MARCHING
END-OFSEASON DISPLAY
Marching teams representing the various associations attached to the Christchurch Marching Centre were at the Show Grounds yesterday afternoon to give displays on the closing day of the 1954-55 season.
Although several teams were away, the crowd, the largest at any marching display this season, was very well entertained, and some excellent marching was seen, especially by the senior teams. During the afternoon, displays were given by midget, junior, and senior teams, and these were well received by the crowd, especially those given by the midget teams, which were very good tor girls all under 12 years of age. Lordships team, which has only recently entered the senior A grade, gave a very pleasing display, as did the other senior team, Papanui. The massed drill exhibition was very neatly executed. During the afternoon the Scottish Society of New Zealand’s Pipe Band, which supplied the music for the marching, played a selection. The concluding Item was a maze march by all teams, and this proved very colourful and spectacular. At the conclusion of the displays, trophies won by teams during the season were presented as follows: Midgets.—Displays: Poisons and Hollanders (equal). Leader at the halt, fall in, and inspection, also costumes: Polson. Juniors.—Displays: Coronation. Leader at the halt, fall in, and inspection, also costume: Motoways. Seniors.—Displays: Lordships. Leader at the halt, fall in, and inspection, also costumes: Lordships. Christchurch Association’s aggregate for most points in all championships in Canterbury district: Gay Gordons.
