TEAM FOR NEXT TEST

West Indies Selectors Cause Surprise

RAMADHIN, VALENTINE DROPPED

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 pm.) PORT OF SPAIN, April 16. The West Indies test selectors today caused a major surprise when they omitted Ramadhin and Valentine from the team to play Australia in the third I test at Georgetown. They were among four changes made. McWatt, Ramadhin, Valentine, and Butler are replaced by Atkinson, G. Depeiza, N. Marshall, and WorreU. The team is:—Stollmeyer, Atkinson. Depeiza. Holt, King, Marshall. Smith, Sobers. Walcott. Weekes. Worrell. Ramadhin and Valentine have been the West Indies’ two greatest post-war bowlers. Valentine has been handicapped by a lacerated forefinger, and the plan may be to give him a rest before the fourth test, but it is hard to find a reason for the emission of Ramadhin, who bowled soundly in the two tests. The dropping of the wicket-keeper, McWatt, was no surprise, because he had been poor by any standards. Depeiza, who replaces him. will make the third wicket-keeper tried in three tests.

Norman Marshall is an all-rounder. Atkinson led the West Indies in the first test. Worrell was also in the first test and was unavailable for the second because of a leg injury.
