Mass Innoculation Begins In U.S.
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) SAN DIEGO (California), April 16. The first mass inoculation of American school children since the success of the Salk poliomyelitis vaccine was announced, began today. Before the day is over, the parents of about 30,000 children will have taken them to schools throughout the San Diego County for the first of two inoculations with the vaccine. About 200 local doctors volunteered their services. County health officials said they hoped the vaccine would be administered within four hours. Inoculations will begin in Los Angeles schools on Monday. Fifteen schools were expected to be visited by teams of doctors the first week, and 100 schools every week during the next five weeks.
