INTER-VARSITY MEETING
CAMBRIDGE LOSES TO OXFORD
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, April 16. Oxford set up a new record for the inter-university athletics at the White City, London, today, by beating Cambridge for the eighth successive year. It finished with 79 points to Cambridge’s 47. New Zealanders scored a first and a second, G. Jeffries, of Otago University, winning the high jump with 6ft lin and K. North, of King's College, finishing second in the pole vault. Jeffries tried 6ft 3J in to set a new university record for the series, but just failed. North may have been unlucky not to win, for he accomplished the same vault of lift 6in as the Cambridge winner, the Swifs, Eddie Freitag, but lost because of more failures.
