CAMPAIGN AGAINST ATOM WARFARE

WELLINGTON. April 12. The New Zealand Peace Council, in a supplied statement signed by Hilda M. Parry, assistant national secretary, says that a world-wide campaign against preparation for atomic warfare is being waged by the World Council of Peace. “The campaign takes the form of an appeal to the peoples of the world seeking a destruction of stocks of atomic weapons wherever they may be and the immediate cessation of their manufacture,” the statement savs. The New Zealand Peace Council, the statement adds, is sponsoring a signature campaign in support of the appeal. Its launching in New Zealand will coincide with the visit of the Rev. Frank Hartley, superintendent minister of the Prahran City Mission, Melbourne, and a member of the World Council of Peace. statement says that the aim of the world council is 1,000,000,000 signatures and that already 200,000,000 have signed, including people from the Soviet Union, Chiba, Britain, and the United States. “Now and in the future we shall oppose those who organise atomic war,” the statement adds.
