POWER SAVINGS IN INDUSTRY
WARDENS ADVOCATED The appointment of power wardens is recommended to members of the Canterbury Manufacturers* Association by its electricity committee, in an effort to meet the Municipal Electricity Department’s request for industry to save as much power as possible. The committee suggests to association members that in large factories a warden should be appointed to each department or floor so that there would always be someone watching for power wastage. The duties of the warden, as outlined by the committee, were: (1) To check all light bulbs, remove those not absolutely necessary and where possible replace bulbs with others of lower candle power; (2) to watch for leaking hot water taps; (3) to remove belts on loose pulleys from machines not frequently used; (4) to switch off welding transformers and grinding machines when not in use; (5) to withdraw all heaters other than those required fox- processing; (6) if possible to throw out the main switch during rest and lunch-hour periods; (7) to see that lines of shafting are not run Unnecessarily; (8) to attempt to obtain the co-operation of employees to effect economies in their homes; (9) to present to employers meter readings showing from day to day what economies had been effected.
