BRISBANE, April 10Four Royal Australian Air Force officers, a nursing sister and a two-day-old girl were killed when a Lincoln bomber crashed on. Mount Superbus, 20 miles east of Warwick, Queensland, early yesterday. The aircraft was on a mercy flight bringing the dangerously ill blue baby to Brisbane for a blood transfusion.
The captain of the aircraft was Wing Commander John Peter Costello, Commanding Officer of No. 10 Maritime Reconnaissonce Squadron, Townsville. The bomber left Townsville at 12.20 a.m. to bring the baby to Brisbane for a blood transfusion. At 4 a.m. it radioed Brisbane that it expected to land in 15 minutes. Nothing more was heard from the aircraft. A Canberra bomber discovered the wreckage of the Lincoln on the peak of Mount Superbus. Experts said it appeared to have flown straight into the peak of the mountain. The wreckage was scattered over hundreds of yards.
