LABOUR AND SOCIAL CREDIT
Sir,—Miss M. B. Howard says the principles of social credit should be investigated, and if found workable, should be adopted by the Labour Party. The following quotation from the Labour Party’s election policy, 1935, may be helpful “National Credit Control. A planned economy will be of little use if the Government has not the power to carry its plans into effect. Such power will require the control of credit which, if it remains in private hands, can be used to thwart the will of the Government. The Central Credit Organisation must control the flow of credit, the general price level, and the regulation of foreign exchange operations.” It would seem the Labour Party knew quite a lot about social credit in 1935. Also, Mr Nash, who knows quite a lot about finance, was Minister of Finance in the Labour Government for 14 years, and should be of considerable assistance.—Yours, etc., L.J.S. February 22, 1955.
