PAYMENT OF APPRENTICE ELECTRICIANS
Sir, —I am sure that many electrical apprentices are wondering what has become of the money owing to them for attending Saturday morning classes' at the Technical College. The apprenticeship order says, “Within 28 days of the closing of classes each term, the employer will pay the apprentice. a sum equal to the wages due to him at ordinary rates.” The classes closed last term on November 20, which meant that if it is paid next Thursday, February 24, it will be 84 days’ overdue. Who is to blame for this unnecessary delay? Is it the apprenticeship committee, the employer, or the Christchurch Technical College? Yours, etc., FED UP. February 18, 1955. [“This matter is now in the course of adjustment,” said the District Commissioner of Apprenticeships (Mr V. E. Thomas) when he was asked to comment on this letter.]
