This morning the Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. Martin Sullivan) will present to Miss M. G. Havelaar, chairman of the Christchurch committee of the Save the Children Fund, the proceeds in money and gifts of the Christmas tree appeal held in the Christchurch Cathedral for a fortnight before Christmas. As a result of that appeal Dean Sullivan will give Miss Havelaar a cheque for £315 for her fund, and more than 3000 toys, which will be sent to distressed countries overseas, particularly to Greece and Korea.

Mr and Mrs W. S. Mac Gibbon (Naseby street) left yesterday to attend the ceremony of the presentation of a picture to Dame Flora MacLeod in Wellington this afternoon. The picture, which is the national memento of Dame Flora MacLeod’s visit to New Zealand, is the gift of all members of the Clan MacLeod in the Dominion. The presentation will be made by Mr Malcolm McLeod, of Napier, honorary organiser of the New Zealand tour of the chief of the clan. It was painted by the Canterbury artist, Austen Deans, at Grasmere Station, Cass, the home of Mr and Mrs David McLeod. Tonight a banquet will be held in Wellington in honour of Dame Flora MacLeod, and it is expected that 90 members of her clan will attend. Mrs Garry C. Kain (Fairlie) will leave within the next few days for a visit to England. Mr and Mrs J. N. Macleod (“Dunrobin,” Loburn) have left for Wellington to attend the national presentation to Dame Flora MacLeod of Macleod.

Miss I. Maddison and Miss B. Adams, of Oxford, are spending a holiday in Nelson.

For the first time, the Morris Hedstrom University Scholarship, which gives Fijian students the chance to attend university classes in New Zealand, has been awarded to a woman. She is Vasiti Kolokalo Naivaluvou, aged 20. She was born at Nabudrau, Rewa, and was educated at Davuilevu and the Palmerston North Girls’ High School. She intends to study home science at the University of Otago. —(P.A.)

Miss M. G. She enclosed £1 for the Save the Children Fqnd. The generous gift was sent anonymously, and no address was given. Miss Havelaar would like to know the name of the donor so that she could thank her personally. Miss Sylvia Waddell, of Piopio, now district nurse at Otorohanga, gained top marks for New Zealand in the State examination for midwives held in December. Miss Waddell began her general training at the Auckland Hospital in 1946, and later she became

a district nurse in Fiji, spending two years in the islands. After har return last year Miss Waddell went to St. Helens Hospital, Auckland, to do her midwifery training. She is 27. Nurse E. J. Mackay, of the Dunedin Public Hospital, came top for the Dominion in the State examination for maternity nqrses held in December.
