POWER STORAGE INCREASES
M.E.D. EXCEEDS ALLOCATION Slight gains in water storage for power generation in the South Island were reported for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m yesterday. Storage rose from 11,140,000 units to 11,L80,000 units. An official of the State Hydro-elec-tric Department said yesterday that another slight rise might be experienced today. The storage had been helped by rain in the catchment area, but it was reported that the weather was clearing, and further rises were not expected until more ram fell. Yesterday’s increase was -the first since Labour weekend. . Consumption in the Christchurch Municipal Electricity Department s area continues to increase, however. For the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday, the allocation was exceeded by 11 per cent. — 5 per cent, more than had been used in the previous 24 hours. So that the borough staff may cany out maintenance, electric power will be cut off in Rangiora on Sundays, provided weather conditions are suitable, from 5 a.m. till 7 a.m. If this is done, the usual afternoon restriction from 115 psn. till 3.15 p.m. will not be imposed.
