HUNGARY WINS THREE MEDALS
RUSSIA STILL LEADS AT GAMES
(Rec. 11 p.m.) BERNE, August 28. Hungary has won three gold medals at the European Games in Berne—in the 800 metres, 3000 metres steeplechase and the long jump. But, Russia still leads in the unofficial team championship table with 173 points based on the five, four, three, two, one points system, for the first six places. Other placings are: Czechoslovakia 64 points, Hungary 62. Britain 594, Germany 51, Finland 474, Sweden 28, Italy 18, Poland J 6, France 12, Norway 8, Belgium and Jugoslavia 7, Holland and Switzerland 6. Rumania 5, Greece and Luxembourg 1. _ Russia won' 10 gold meals, Czechoslovakia four, Hungary three, Britain and Finland two. Germany and Italy one. Szentigali, of Hungary, won the 800 metres final for men. His time was Itnin 47.1 sec—a hew games record. Russia's first success today was gained by Miss Golubnichaja, who won the Women’s 80 metres hurdles final in llsec—another games record. Aldo Consolini, of Italy, won the men's discus final with a throw of 53.44 metres, 175 ft 41n, New World Record
Rosznyoi, of Hungary, won the 3000 metres. steeplechase final in Bmin 49.65ec. Rosznyoi’s time was easily a championship record and It will also be recognised as' a world record. The International Amateur Athletic Federation decided at its congress earlier in the week to recognise future times as world records. The men’s long jump, final also went to Hungary, N. Foeldessy winning with a leap of 7.51 metres (24ft 7 Jin). Landstroem, of Finland, won the men’s pole valut title with a record leap of 5.5 metres. ■
