ARGENTINIAN WINS IN FERRARI / (NJL. Press Association—Copyright) (Bee, 9 p.m.) LONDON, July 17. Froilan Gonzales, of the Argentine, in an Italian works Ferrari, won the British Grand Prix motor race over 264 miles at Silverstone today. He led from start to finish. Another official Ferrari, driven by Mike Hawthorn (Britain) was second, with Marimon (Argentine), third in an Italian Maserati. Juan Fangio (the Argentine) was fourth in a German Mercedes-Benz. Hurtling round the fast, difficult circuit of nearly three miles, Gonzales covered the 90 laps in 2hr 56min 14sec at an average speed of 89.69 miles an hour.
He was also one of the seven drivers who lapped in Imin 50sec at 95.8 miles an hour, to equal the track record for 2J litre unsupercharged cars, which he set up at Silverstone.
