ADDITIONAL PERMITS
REQUESTS CONSIDERED INOPPORTUNE (From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 16. “We would only be antagonising the powers that be by pressing for additional permits just now when we know that we can’t get them,” said the president (Mr H. R. Chalmers) at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Racing Conference today. Mr Chalmers was commenting on a suggestion that the conference should pursue the question of additional permits to satisfy the demands made by clubs most in need of them. Mr Chalmers said there w’as also a demand being made for more trotting permits, but he could see no good reason for any immediate request for more racing. Many of the clubs asking for extra permits could possibly race if they got them, said Mr Chalmers. “We have enough clashes now, and if you press for more dates you will put us in the cart,” he said. The executive would be alive to • the situation If the need for new permits arose, Mr Chalmers said.
