AUCKLAND RETAINS N.Z. SHIELD

DRAWN MATCH AGAINST WELLINGTON

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 13. After being down 2-0, the Auckland hockey team recovered to force a draw, 4-all, against Wellington and retain the New Zealand Challenge Shield at Hobson Park yesterday. Auckland had a decided advantage in the final stages, and Wellington was fortunate to secure a draw.

G. Cameron played an outstanding game in goal for Auckland. K. D. Nicholson was the outstanding back on the field. G. G. Swift, the Auckland right winger, gave a splendid exhibition. The Wellington goalkeeper, McCutcheon. made some excellent saves, but the Wellington forwards were disappointing.

J. Tynan scored all Wellington’s goals, three from corner hits and one from a penalty ljully. P. Bygrave (2), G. McGregor, and Swift goaled for Auckland.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

Results of the Canterbury Women’s Hockey Association matches played on Saturday were as follows:

Senior A Grade.—University 3, Technical 1;-West Christchurch 6, Selwyn 0; Aranui 4, Digby’s 0; Rawhiti 2, Carlton 2.

Senior A Reserve. —Hinemoa 2, Digby’s 1; Teacher’s College 3, Aranui 1; Carlton 7, Templeton 7.

Senior B Grade.—University 5. Carlton. 0; Hornby 12, Nurses 1; Aranui 8, Teachers’ College 1; Haywin 4, Sydenham 1; Papanui Technical 2, Avonside 1; West Christchurch 5, Beckenham 1.

Intermediate Grade.—Carlton 11. Pacific 0; Technical 2, West Christchurch 1; Teachers' College 0, Digby’s 0. Junior A Grade.—Hinemoa 7, West Christchurch A 1; Digby’s 1, West Christchurch B 1.

Junior B Grade.—Hinemoa- B 2, Technical 1; Carlton 13, West Christchurch 0; Hinemoa A 14, Hornby 1; Avonside 0, Aranui 0; Papanui Technical 1, Southbridge 1. Points in the Senior A Grade competition after the seventh round had been played on Saturday were:— Carlton Aranui 6, Rawhiti 5, Digby’s 3J, Christchurch West 3, University 3, Selwyn 1, Technical 0.
