Walter, Canterbury), have announced the following team for the tour of Australia this year:— Goal.—G. Cameron (Auckland). Backs.—P. Englert, R. Johansson (Wellington), J. Abrams (Canterbury). Halves.—J. Smith, J. Mulheron (Wellington), B. Turner (Manawatu), B. lorns (Wairarapa), M. Loudon (Otago). Forwards.—G. Swift, G. McGregor, P. Bygraves (Auckland), W. Percival, J. C. Tynan, R. Dowdall (Wellington), J. Reece, N. Hobson (Canterbury).

The team will leave Christchurch for Melbourne on Tuesday, July 6, to begin its tour" of Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland. The tour will comprise 22 matches, with the test match at Sydney on August 7. Mr C. C. Holland, of Christchurch, will be the manager of the

SENIOR GAMES WON BY WIDE MARGINS

OLD BOYS STILL IN LEAD All three senior games in the seventh round of the Canterbury Hockey Association’s competitions played on Saturday were won by substantial margins. With the playing surfaces in first-class order, all games provided good stick play and were fast and interesting. Old Boys had a comparatively easy task in beating Technical by 4 goals to 1. Woolston put more snap into its play to beat Selwyn 4-2, and University beat Trinity 5-1.

The results of the day’s games leave Old Boys with a lead of two and a half points over Woolston, with University half a point behind in third place. Following are the points of the teams in the senior divisions:—

First Division.—High School Old Boys 61, Woolston 4, University 3J. Tji'inity 2i, Selwyn 2}, Technical 2. Second Division.—Sydenham 7, Harewood SJ, West, Old Boys 4, Woolston 2J, New Brighton 2, Teachers’ College 0. UNIVERSITy v. TRINITY With a weakened defence. Trinity was all at sea against the more mobile University team, which had 90 per cent, of the field play in its favour. With a good scoring forward, the score would have reached double figures. Cotton, at cerftre, made some great runs to reach Trinity’s scoring area, only to throw chances away by over-eagerness. A short pass to a mate with better opportunities would have made the difference. W. Haskeil and E. D. Bennett as left and right insides passed the ball about well, and Haskell snapped up a couple of goals In good style, one from a pass from Cotton. E. Jackson, at left back, and E. Archer both put in a heavy day’s work with credit, and R. Long, at left wing, made some good runs for his side.

With A. Mitchell absent through illness. Trinity’s defecne weakened, as E. Allen, who substituted for Mitchell, was not accustomed to the position, although he worked hard with Harkess in the back line. F. Boyd and W. Bennett played well in the halves, but were no match for the short passing of the University forwards. E. Thomas and R. Burgess were the pick of the Trinity forwards, Burgess being particularly energetic. Goals were scored for University by Haskell (3) and Cotton (2), and Burgess scored for "Trinity. Umpires: Messrs R. Bay and J. Reece. WOOLSTON V. SELWYN Selwyn lost by a substantial margin through being too slow in passing and allowing the Woolston team to bustle the shots. Woolston has a promising lad in

N. Hobson, who is quick to snap up a pass and is entirely unselfish when in a scoring pc sition. His trapping is good and he has good ball control- His inclusion in the team to tour Australia is well deserved. D. James, on the right wing, is another lad who should reach the top, as he has speed, ball control, and passing ability R. Lapworth, at centre half, keeps the forwards on the move and with R. Gillespie intercepts the opposing raids. L. Hobson and J. Abrams, the youthful backs, had little trouble in stopping the slower Selwyn forwards, and Johannsen, in goal, kept his goal almost intact.

Selwyn had the right idea, and if the players had put a little more speed into the play Woolston might have been well extended. Reece is a clever player, but it is seldom that one player makes a team. G. Miskimmin is battling well but lacks company, and is frequently compelled to go solo. Selwyn was unlucky to lose McOscar early in the game, as he is playing sound defensive hockey this season. M. Clements was outstanding in the back line, and cleared his circle time and again. He is playing sound, clever hockey this season, and is one of the most reliable backs about. Bougen in goal had a busy day and. although four goals got past, they were only a small percentage. Goals were scored for Woolston by N. Hobson (2), Cockroft, and Howard, and for Selwyn by Scott and Reece. Umpires: Messrs I. Cummins and B. W. Rogers. OLD BOYS v. TECHNICAL Playing good, controlled hockey, Old Boys were too good for Technical. The game, though it seemed to lack fire, yet contained some clever moves and effective hockey. Old Boys made more use of short placed passing in contrast to Technical’s more open game, and they showed more ability to use their chances. Although both I. and R. Armstrong were missing from the Old Boys forwards, the side still had penetration and the right wing attack, with N. Thomas going well, was always effective. He got good support from P. Hanna, and P. Blythe worked hard in the centre. W. Browne showed further improvement at centre-half, though he got close to his man at times and was penalised for obstruction. D. Reid played soundly at right back, and though he lost the ball at times to the fast Technical forwards, he was always seeking to mpke play for the men in front. Technical’s long-passing game was effective, and their fast forwards kept the ball moving well. J. Burrowes on the right was in many of the moves and L. Lloyd worked hard and effectively. A. Roberts seems to be coming into form, and he got splendid support from P. Kissell, who played really well at left half. So, too, did J. Newburn, who played safely at back. Old Boys took the lead halfway through the first spell when, after Technical had missed with a series of penalty corners, Thomas took play down, and Hanna turned his centre in. Thomas got the next when he scored from well out, while Blythe scored from close in. Technical went down from the bully and Burrowes topped a good run with a clever goal. The second spell was even, but Technical failed to use several penalty corners. The Thomas-Hanna combination worked well for Hanna to add one for Old Boys, and Lloyd snapped in a quick goal from well out for Technical. Umpires: Messrs W. Morris and J. Mann.
