WORLD HEALTH MEETINGS
NEW ZEALAND DELEGATE RETURNS
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGON, June 11.
The Deputy Director-General of Health (Dr. H. B. Turbott) returned by air from Sydney today after attending meetings of the World Health Organisation in Geneva.
He said this year’s W.H.O. conference had been mainly a financial meeting. In the three-week conference, the delegates had been forced to revise the budget from the 5,000,000 dollars expected, to the 2,250,000,000 dollars actually received. No problems affecting New Zealand had been discussed at the assembly, said Dr. Turbott. The Dominion was putting much more into the organisation than it was taking out. Every year it made the usual contribution, based on population, and in addition trained a lot of staff for W.H.O. It took out only one fellowship a year, allowing one qualified medical student to study in other countries. After the W.H.O. assembly, Dr. Turbott, who left New Zealand two months ago, attended a meeting of the executive board of W.H.O. Before returning, he also represented New Zealand at the annual congress of the Royal Sanitary Institute at Scarborough.
