ORGANIC COMPOST SOCIETY
NEW HEADQUARTERS IN CHRISTCHURCH Canterbury became the official administrative centre for the New Zealand Organic Compost Society when the first meeting of the new Dominion Council was held in Christchurch on Thursday.
Measures necessary for the transfer of the society’s headquarters from Auckland, where it has been for the last 15 years, were passed by the meeting. Authority was given to the magazine editor (Mr J. Meechin) to issue the July-August number of the society’s magazine. One of the functions of the new council wil be to deal with individual and public bodies on using town wastes for composting. Officers of the new national executive are as follows: president, Mr T. D. Lennie; secretary, Mr T. M. Charters; magazine editor, Mr Meechin; and the presidents of all branches. Apart from Mr S. F. Webb (Canterbuiy), the following representatives, resident in Christchurch, will act in place of branch presidents: Messrs H. A. Wilson (Auckland), W. T. Wainman (Wellington), C. G. McKellar (New Plymouth), H. F. Sewell (Otago), L. F. Shalders (Hawke’s Bay), and C. E. St. John (Wanganui).
