“NO JUSTIFICATION” FOR LAND TAX
Land tax is a class tax, which has no justification whatsoever, and In many instances farmers are in effect taxed on their debts,’’ said the secretary, Mr A. E. G. Lyttle, in his annual report to the ninth annual conference of the North Canterbury district of Federated Farmers yesterday. “The recent phenomenal increases in land valuations have made the wiping out of land tax more urgent than ever,” he said. The abolition of the tax had been urged for very many years, and the taxation committee had brought down a recommendation to the same effect.
