MEMORIAL DAY IN KOREA

N.Z. Represented At Parade

(N.Z. Army Information Service) PUSAN, June 2. Representatives of 21 countries took part in a special memorial day service at the United Nations cemetery at Pusan on Sunday to pay homage to the war dead ,of United Nations countries in Korea. The day is the equivalent in the United States of New Zealand’s Anzac Day. New Zealand was represented at the ceremony by Staff-Sergeant T. Lynch (Auckland), of K Force headquarters in Kure. A highlight of the service was the laying of memorial wreaths at the foot of each United Nations flagpole in the cemetery, where New Zealand’s Korean war dead are buried. A United States honour guard stood at attention throughout the ceremony. The service started with six American light bombers swooping over the burial ground. Memorial Day services were also held in other parts of South Korea. Mr Holyoake said he had known Brown and had watched him boxing since his schoolboy days. He praised his sportsmanship both in the ring and outside it. Replying, Brown thanked his parents, officials of the Wellington Boxing Association, and his opponents for their part in his success.
