TRAVEL CLUB
ADDRESS BY AUTHOR OF BESTSELLER
Mr Richard Pape, author of the bestseller, '‘Boldness, Be My Friend,” told members of the Canterbury Travel Club at a special meeting yesterday why he wrote his escape story. When in South Africa, he had consulted a psychiatrist, who advised him to write down all his experiences, said Mr Pape. This he did, but he put the manuscript away and forgot about it. Some years later, he sent the work to Sir Archibald Mclndoe, who had previously performed plastic surgery on the author’s face. Sir Archibald Me-. Indoe sent the manuscript to the British Air Ministry, and it was eventually published. With the aid of a large map, Mr Pape indicated the routes he took in his wanderings across Europe, when he masqueraded as Mr Winston Yeatman, a fellow prisoner of war, who now lives ag Hornby. Mr and Mrs Yeatman were guests of honour at the meeting. Songs were sung by Mrs Cara Cogswell. The accompanist was Mrs W. E. Olds. Mrs Read Masters welcomed the visitors, and Mrs Cecil Wood thanked the speaker and the artists. Mr J. Wyn Irwin presided.
