Springston.—Mrs R. Lyson presided at the monthly meeting of the Springston Country Women’s Institute. Results of competitions were:—handcraft: Mrs N. Buckley 1, Mrs C. Heywood 2, Mrs J. Blakemore 3. Reid (Rotherham) assisted by Mrs Dickel gave an interesting demonstration on the making of ceramics, and showed some of her finished pieces. Results of the competitions were:—three carrots: Mrs A. Pines Beach.—The monthly meeting of the Pines Beach Country Women’s Institute took the form of an afternoon social. Mrs Martin presided and welcomed two new members. Plans were made for celebratiing the fifth anniversary of the founding of the institute. Competition results were:—large bloom: Mrs Neale 1, Mrs Hawkins 2, Mrs Taylor 3. Hornby.—One new member was welcomed by Mrs Williams, vice-president, who presided at the monthly meeting of the Hornby Country Women’s Institute. It was decided to send a delegate to the cpnference in Wellington in July. A sales table did good business. Competition results were:—best bloom: Mrs Moffat 1, Mrs Grennell 2. Mrs Fletcher 3. Women’s Institute. A talk on the motto “It Pays to Co-operate,” was given by Mrs Taylor. Birthday sprays were presented to Mesdames Marsh. Gabb, McKenzie, Bampton and Barlass. Sheffield.—Mrs Q. A. Wright presided at the monthly meeting of the Sheffield Country Women’s Institute. More than 30 dozen biscuits were collected for distribution amongst the sick and elderly persons in the district. Mrs Max Bull gave an entertaining account of her recent trip round the Southern Lakes. Competition results were:—small cluster: Mrs G. Johnson 1, Mrs S. Morrison 2, Mrs W. Norton 3. Remits were discussed for the annual general meeting of the Dominion Federation. Letters of thanks were received from Nurse Maude District Nursing Association for quilts, and Save the Children Fupd from Miss M. G. Havelaar. An interesting talk on home nursing was given by Mrs Mclntosh, of the St. John Ambulance. The hostesses were Mesdames W. Suttie, T. Pearson, and Heywood. Competition results wete:— Best bloom: Mrs C.
