SQUARE DANCING GROUP
The square dancing group of the Risingholme Community Centre will i celebrate its third anniversary on June j 17 with a fancy dress evening of dancing and competitions. The group, which has been meeting on Thursday evenings from March to November of each year since 1951, now has a membership of about 40. 1 The dancers use recordings, many of which the secretary of the group (Mr K. Hunt) has obtained from Mr J. Clossin, of Texas, who acted as the caller when the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh took *part in sq.uare dancing in Canada. Members of the group have given demonstrations for organisations in Christchurch and in country districts, geing as far afield as Culverden.
Plans for conducting occupational therapy classes at Wesley Lodge, the Methodist Central Mission’s eventide home, are being made by the superintendent of the mission (the Rev. W. E. Falkingham). Mr Falkingham said yesterday that some of the residents at the home wanted to learn as a pastime some kind of light handwork, such as weaving or fretwork, and the services of a part-time therapist were being sought.
