NEW BREED OF SHEEP EXHIBITED

LINCOLN-CHEVIOT CROSS (New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, November 9. A new breed of sheep is being shown at the Manawatu Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s show. Called “Chevlin” by its breeder, Mr R. G. Buckleton. of Bulls, the sheep is the product of a cross between the Lincoln and Cheviot breeds. It attracted favourable comment from expert breeders. Mr Buckleton’s small flock represents only the second experiment in crossing Cheviots and Lincolns in Nev/ Zealand. Mr Buckleton has as his aim the improvement of carpet wool sheep. The Chevlin combines the Cheviot’s hardiness, thrift, good carcase, and high lambing percentage with the first quality carpet wool of the Lincoln.
