PAINTING OF RAILWAY STATION

WORK BEGUN YESTERDAY A start was made yesterday with the painting of the Christchurch Railway Station in preparation for the forthcoming Royal tour. Two spray-paint-ing gangs are at present putting into effect the colour scheme decided on at the head office of the Railways Department in Wellington. The exterior of the station will be light grey, the base of the building smoke grey, and the parapets and door and window facings, white. Primrose walls at the station portico and skyblue for the underside of the roof, have been decided on. The main platform veranda supports will be jasmine yellow, the underside of the roof offwhite, and the wall smoke grey. All station buildings on the Midland line and the main south line from Timaru southwards have been painted where necessary.
