MEMORIAL TABLETS UNVEILED

CEREMONY HELD AT GREENDALE Memorial tablets in honour of men and women of the Greendale district who served in the Boer War, World War I and World War 11, were unveiled at a special ceremony in the Greendale Domain on Sunday afternoon. The unveiling was performed by the chairman of the Malvern County Council (Mr James Deans) and the taolets were dedicated by the Rev. V. R. Jamieson, of Christchurch. About 250 residents of the district attended the ceremony. Installed by local subscription, the tablets are set in three rough-cast concrete’posts painted white, at the entrance to the Greendale Domain. The lettering is set on marble relief, and contains 60 names—three who served in the Boer War, 32 in World War I. and 25. including two nurses, in World War 11.

The entrance to the domain is completely new, with a cattle-stop structure for motor-cars to pass over, and a small gate between two of the posts, for pedestrians. Two 12ft wings slant back on either side of the main posts.
