CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR PRINCE CHARLES

Sir,—ln “The Press” this morning I noted that the Auckland Cornish Association is inviting donations towards a Christmas present for Prince Charles as “Duke of Cornwall,” when the Royal party visits Auckland. May I, as a descendant of Cornish parents, make a suggestion. For every shilling given towards this object, 9a of the amount be allocated to a “Charles Christmas Gift Fund” for the children of the devastated Greek islands in the recent earthquake. There is very little likelihood of these childrein otherwise getting anything for Christmas; and I am sure the Queen would be delighted at this gesture of help. Threepenny bits would provide quite a good present for Prince Charles—no need for thousands of pounds spent on him when he has so much and others have so little. Let us do something about it.—Yours, etc., CORNISH PASTIE. September 17, 1953.
