VIOLENT STORM IN LONDON

LIGHTNING CAUSES TWO DEATHS (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, July 19. A violent thunderstorm which swept over London and parts of the British Isles yesterday killed a man and a youth and injured others, including women. It also toppled 'chimneys, ripped slates from roofs, flooded homes anß interrupted broadcasting and sporting programmes. Lightning killed a Ukrainian, Andrez Berczuk, as he was walking in the Kensington Gardens, and William Robinson, aged 17, as he was sitting in the cockpit of a motor cruiser. Lightning also knocked down and severely burned two boys who were running for shelter. The storm flooded some sections of the London Underground system. Flooding prevented lighting and other stage effects from being operated at the Old Vic Theatre and the audience waited outside while water was pumped from the basement and the bar.

In some sections of the city, masonry crashed to the pavement when the storm was at its neight.
