MR NASH BACK FROM LONDON

Britain’s Part Jn World Affairs “LOAD FAR TOO HEAVY” (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 19. The leader of the Opposition (Mr Walter Nash) returned by B.C.P.A. airliner tonight after visiting Britain for the Coronation and returning by way of the United States. “From the international affairs viewpoint, the load carried by Britain is disproportionately heavy, Mr Nash said. “But who else could carry that burden?” It was essential that the countries of the Commonwealth should do everything possible to aid Britain in its problems. Mr Nash expressed pleasure at the degree of recovery evident in Britain and said that he had rediscovered the spirit of the people during his visit. “The people of the United Kingdom during the period of the Coronation were the most remarkable men and women I have ever known,” he said. “I have never known anything like it—a great united family with never an angry word heard anywhere.” This was particularly evident in the Coronation said Mr Nash. The usual bad temper which was apparent when people were jammed tightly together was nowhere evident. “It was a great honour to go Home as a guest for the Coronation, and we could not have been treated better,” said Mr Nash, speaking for Mrs Nash as well a s for himself. “It was delightful to be in London for that great event.” Mrs Nash was wearing a magnificent orchid which she had been given in San Francisco, and was carrying two flower leis, a farewell present from the Rev. M. Bennett, with whom they had stayed in Honolulu. The deputy-Lead er of the Opposition (Mr C. F. Skinner) and Auckland Labour members of Parliament met Mr Nash at Whenuapai. Mr Nash will leave for Wellington on Tuesday.
