PULP AND PAPER PROJECT
ADVISERS COMING FROM CANADA
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) MONTREAL, July 18. Several Canadian technical advisers on pulp and paper would leave soon for New Zealand to help in the development of the Dominion’s pulp and paper industry, Mr E. B. Corbett, the New Zealand Minister of Lands, Forests, and Maori Affairs, said last night in an interview. He said that the development of the industry was expected to produce the nation’s domestic needs, as well as an export quota of paper for Australia. Mr Corbett already has visited Washington, New York, and Ottawa to make inquiries connected with the plant.
He was accompanied by Mr W. Sullivan, the Minister of Labour, Mims, and Immigration. The group will leave today for British Columbia to study west coast timber operations. Mr Corbett said that almost 1,000,000 acres of Government-owned softwood forest would be the nucleus of the development. Private ownership would be desirable later for its future development.
