DOMINION X-RAY LABORATORY
PERMANENT BUILDING PROPOSALS
EARLY ANNOUNCEMENT EXPECTED
A permanent establishment for the Dominion X-ray and Radium Laboratory in Christchurch is expected to be approved soon after negotiations which have been in progress ever since the laboratory was given notice to quit the basement of the physics department at Canterbury University College. Operations have been carried out in the heart of the business area since the laboratory had to move to temporary premises in the Waldorf building in Cashel street. More than a year ago plans were discussed for a new laboratory on a site between Victoria and Montreal streets near where the barracks for the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve are being completed. The H-shaped two-storey building planned would have contained all amenities for the varied work undertaken by the laboratory. It is believed that more recent proposals are -for 8 modified plan with fewer wings and less floor space on the same site.
