KAIKOURA WATER SUPPLY

Sir, —In desperation I write you about the Kaikoura water supply. Since last Christmas the water supply for the residents of Kaikoura has been disgraceful. There is a constant supply of filth through the tap and water has been cut off at least six times during this period. During fine weather there is not enough pressure to supply the residents on the hill; and when it. rains; off goes the water. The excuses given by the Borough Council are numerous, bu.t. when considered, are weak. Seeing our water rates are so high, it is to be expected that something will be done to give usable water to all, and the sooner the better. We are hoping the Health Department will investigate the position. I hope, through your paper, to open a discussion, not only on the water supply, but also the whole question of Kaikoura in general.— Yours. etc< I RATE-PAYER. Kaikoura, March 30, 1953. [The chairman of the Kaikoura County Council (Cr. H. J. Hewson), to whom this letter was referred, said: • “It is not the policy of the council to ■ reply to anonymous or other corres- [ pondence appearing in the newspapers, > but the council has always investi- . gated, and will continue to investigate, . any complaint made directly to it.”]
