Carrying a -basketful of bananas and paw paws, and giant pink davui shell trophy. Miss Yvette Williams stepped off a flying-boat at Mechanics Bay today, after competing in the Fijian’ athletic championships at Suva during the Easter holidays. She set Fijian records in the bioad jump, shot put, discus, and 50 yards. Miss Williams said she found the rainy, steaming hot climate unpleasant, and remarked: “About aU they wear over there ire umbrellas.” Presented to Miss Williams by the Fiji Amateur Sports Association, the 15-inch davui shell is mounted on a polished wood base, with an inscription to commemorate her visit. It is by far the most attractive trophy of the many that she has won. Between the two championship sessions last Saturday apd on Monday, Miss Williams saw a good deal of Fiji. She gave talks on the Olympic Games at three schools, and spent one night at Victoria College, 40 miles from Suva. Miss Williams will leave for Dunedin tomorrow.
