ARMS AID FOR INDO-CHINA

OFFER MADE BY AUSTRALIA (Rec. 10 p.m.) CANBERRA, March 11. Australia had offered military aid to the French Union forces fighting the Vietminh Communists in Indo-China, Mr Jean Letourneau, French Minister for the Associated States of IndoChina, said today. He told a press conference that a French military mission would come from Saigon next month to discuss details. The Australian Cabinet had agreed to put at the disposal of the mission all the country’s surplus military equipment, arms and ammunition. The supplies would be a gift, but it was France’s responsibility to ship them. Mr Letourneau said it was impossible to estimate the value of the aid that was being offered. In addition, he had been told that steps were being taken to supply economic aid, including food and clothing, to the Associated States of Indo-China, within the framework of the Colombo Plan.
