CANTERBURY MUSEUM EXTENSIONS
GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY MAKES GRANT
The Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Geographical Society decided at a meeting last evening to contribute to the Canterbury Museum extension ftfnd. A grant of £l5 “from limited funds” was made by the branch, and Professor G. Jobberns said be would give £ 5 through the society. When the motion was presented, Mr J. L. Hewland suggested that the sum be increased to £2O. The branch had; a fund for producing a centennial; geographical publication, “of which nothing is in sight” The museum was! making an appeal for extensions which would be of tangible benefit to members. , L I Professor Jobberns said he thought Mr Hewland a little pessimistic about; the society’s publication. To save; cutting into that fund, he would give; £5 himself. The Director of the Museum (Dr. Roger Duff), who gave an address at the meeting, said the support of the many societies using the museum was particularly welcomed by the sponsors as a lead in the later approach to householders. The sum was to make the museum interest and serve everybody. he said.
