INDECENCY CHARGE
CONSTABLE ADMITTED TO PROBATION (New Zealand Press Association) GISBORNE. February 16. After pleading guilty to a charge of committing an indecent act against a male, a police constable. Keith Mildon, aged 22, was admitted to probation for 12 months when he appeared before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M.. in the Magistrate’s Court at Gisborne today. Detective-Sergeant R. H. Waterson. who prosecuted, said the offence had been committed while Mildon was relieving at a country station. When he was questioned by the police he frankly admitted the offence. For Mildon. Mr K. A. Woodward said the charge was not one which could be treated lightly, but the offence had not been serious. Mildon had been already punished by his dismissal from the Police Force. The Magistrate said the law regarded this type of offence seriously. A report from the probation officer had shown that Mildon had borne a good character, and had this not been so he would not have been accepted as a member of the Police Force. In view of the circumstances he would place Mildon on probation for 12 months.
