MIGRATION TO CANADA
(Rec. 12.10 p.m.) OTTAWA, Jan. 20. Canada's Chamber of Commerce today urged the Government to open the nation’s doors wide to immigrants and give Canada a population of 30.000, bfi by 1975.' But the Chamber also urged the Cabinet to continue its selective policy of trying tq get more settlers from Britain, France, and the United States. Canada's population is now estimated at 14,0u),000. The Chamber said a continuation of the 1951 immigration rate would admit only about 5,000,000 new Canadians during the next 25 years. Even with a natural population growth, the country would fall far short of the 30,000,000 mark.
