ROYAL VISIT DATES
NO OFFICIAL ADVICE IN CHRISTCHURCH
Although the dates in January next year when the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will visit Christchurch are known to heads of Government departments • in Wellington, the City Council has not been officially notified. The Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.) said yesterday that it was time Christchurch had a definite statement about the Royal visit. He and the Town Clerk (Mr H. S. Feast) knew the dates, but their information was unofficial. “What is alt the hush-hush about?’* said Mr Macfarlane. “The Prime Minister has told Auckland when the Royal visitors will be there, and the Government knows the dates. I cannot see why. if the dates are known, we should not be told how long the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are likely to be in Christchurch. Mr Holland should be concerned with his own city.” Mr Macfarlane said that the dates for the Royal visit were common knowledge in some quarters in Wellington. He did not believe the dates would be made public until the Secretary of Internal Affairs (Mr A. G. Harper) visited Christchurch on February 3 to discuss arrangements for the visit with the City Council and other organisations. '
