AMERICA’S POLITICAL FUTURE

Sir, —Your correspondent, “Watchdog,” deserves the congratulations of thinking citizens for his timely warning concerning the outcome of the American elections. The well-informed will agree with “Watchdog” that the unholy trinity of militarism, Republicanism and Catholicism (Roman) are real dangers. We do well, then, to examine each more closely. First, militarism. General Eisenhower has promised to go to Korea to try to effect an armistice, and he has repeatedly stated that war solves no problems. Of course, the promise was merely a vote-catcher, and the other, sheer hypocrisy. Secondly, Republicanism. America’s “capitalist” party deserves no praise. The Republicans have always shown that business interests come before national welfare. Thirdly, Catholicism (Roman). The heavy vote of the Catholic minority for the Republicans proves conclusively their preponderance, and General Eisenhower’s denial that he is anti-Catholic shows that he is really in the Vatican’s clutches. “Watchdog” deserves our emphatic thanks.—Yours, etc., L.R.F.W. Reef ton, November 10, 1952.
