HOUSEWIVES AND THE ATOMIC BOMB

Sir, —The Housewives’ Union informed the Prime Ministers of Great Britain and New Zealand that many New Zealand women did not approve the expenditure of £100,000.000 on perfecting the atomic bomb, and that the money should be put to a constructive, and not a destructive use. This step: has the support of many members of the weaker sex, too. Yet, why didn’t the union also send a similar letter to Generalissimo Stalin asking him to stop the production of atomic bombs in the U.S.S.R.? Is it because, many New Zealand women, including the Housewives’ Union, approve of the latter and consider they are inexpensive and less frightful? Why didn’t the above-mentioned organisation turn to its counter-part in the U.S.S.R. with the request, “Please Copy?”—Yours etc., I NO MORE WAR. I November 11, 1952.
