LEGISLATION ON LAND AGENTS
Sir, —On reading “The Press” report of the annual conference of the Real Estate Institute on November 6, I was disgusted to learn that that institution is endeavouring to monopolise real estate business, to the detriment of those land agents who are giving splendid service to the public, and who refuse to be regimented to the whims of a number of individuals with no greater qualifications than those they are trying to eliminate. A remark attributed to Mr A. Sherris concering an applicant for a land agent’s licence is insulting to land agents, examining magistrates, and police inquiry officers. The institute proposes to cause a distinction between its members and non-mem-bers, and is appointing a propaganda officer for that purpose. The Real Estate Institute, which serves no useful purpose, should be extinguished and, instead, a Dominion Land Agents Association formed.—Yours, etc., REAL ESTATE. November 11, 1952.
